My most recent project
Recently i have been doing work in video game prop and armor replicas. I'm finishing up the solid eye from Metal Gear Solid right now, as well as working on Emiel's armor from halo reach. Pictures to come on the process for that. Although i have been working on that, i have still been messing around with my makerbot. I've finally upgraded my extruder to the MK5 and it works like a charm. its honestly 1000x better than my last extruder, but thats not saying much considering that i had the first generation hardware. But its back up and running beautifully. They also just released another makerbot called the Thing-O-matic, which looks interesting everything about it has been upgraded. So ill see where those go, and maybe upgrade if it looks like a good move. Ill post pictures of the armor, prop, and robot later.

Changing the blog
Since i cover pretty much everything that i do on this blog except cooking (i have a separate blog for that) i was thinking about changing the name/topic of this blog, to more of a tinkerer theme. But maybe not, i might just leave it as is, but still post all of my experiments/projects.
Perpetual Motion
So i was bored yesterday, and started to think about perpetual motion devices. Seeing how it is impossible, i started to think about how to make a completely self contained electric generator. Which, in theory, should work. However, so should many other things. essentially, it will be coils of copper wire, wrapped around a spool, with a motor with magnets on it, spinning in the middle. This will create electricity, which with a little circuit work, will in turn power the motor, creating a full circle.

yet more problems...
Well i guess nothing is perfect for long. After fixing one thing, new issues arise. It seems that one of the bolts that secure the plastruder assembley is in the way of the build platform, as well as the two endstops. Good thing this isn't too pig of an issue. just a few screws to take out, than retighten. So i should be up and running again soon. As always, if there is anything you would like printed, hit me up with an email, or post a comment. Also Check Out thingiverse.com. Lots of cool things on there

Heated build stage
New nerf gun

So i enjoyed the last one i did so much that i decided to do another one. this time a little more awesome though. I attached a chain gun barrel to the front of it. kinda overkill i think, but totally worth it. Although i have been running into some issues with the design (the motor in the gun isn't powerful enough to turn the barrel. understandably so considering its around 8 pounds) so i need to fix that issue, but besides that it turned out better than i had expected!
IT WORKS AGAIN!!!
WOOO! so after a short break its back up and running again! I ran into a few problems with the coding, like in this for example...
G1 X-200 Y-200 Z59 F4826
M101
G1 X-200 Y8 Z59 F9240
G1 X-19 Y8 Z59 F9240
G1 X-20 Y5 Z59 F9240
G1 X-20 Y4 Z59 F9240
G1 X-20 Y3 Z59 F9240
So this is the code that tells the printers X Y and Z axises to go. Notice anything weird about it? In the first line it says X-200. Yeah thats an issue because the max dimensions of the printing stage in 100x100x100 mm. soo yeah. Not entirely sure what i did that fixed it, i just pushed some buttons..., and it works! yay. But i did accomplish a few things during that little hiatus. I built a new nerf gun. as well as updated the hardware on the bot.

UPGRADE!
So recently, in an effort to bring my batch one makerbot up to the standards of the newer ones, i built the heated build platform. Adding a much needed upgrade from the build platform i was using before (foam core squares attached to the build stage). With the addition of a ring of red led's between the build platform and the wooden stage making it look even more ufo-like. Ill post pictures soon

On an unrelated note...
Earlier last week, due to being snowed in, i decided to try my hand at Steampunk. Which, after starting with a nerf gun, turned out to be a lot of fun. I've been working on if for a few days, and most likely going to be done by this weekend. So i will post as soon as its finished.

IT'S ALIVE
I have decided to start a blog about my robot, Makerbot #51. Which after roughly 6 months of working on and off on him, he was finished on december 30th. It's been busy printing away and tuning for the past month or so. and finally its working perfectly! Pictures to come later.
Random prints

Random set of prints that i did last night. Top is half of walt disney's head. Extruder got jammed up with twisted filiment during the print so i had to stop it. below that is the Tri-force from Zelda! pure epicness. Then there is the first half of a braclet that is modeled after cellular division. usually made out of steel, so it usually would look layered, but i though it would look cool like that. finally there is the bottom half of a box that i was making. It is a puzzle, which to get the top on or off you have to solve it.
